About
Education, research interests and key milestones
Sidelmo Magalhães Silva is a Full Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses. He received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from UFMG in 1997, graduating with the class Gold Medal, followed by the M.Sc. (1999) and Ph.D. (2003) degrees from the same university, with research on dynamic voltage restorers.
From October 2001 to August 2002 he worked with the Product Development Department of ABB in Switzerland, developing power quality equipment rated 1.5–3.5 MVA. He was Executive Director of HPE High Power Engineering (2004–2006) and a faculty member at CEFET-MG (2006–2010). From August 2017 to July 2018 he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, USA, working on electric power microgrids.
His expertise covers the design of static power converters, digital signal processing systems for converter control, and the analysis and mitigation of power quality problems. He reviews for journals including IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Access, IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, Journal of Power Electronics and Journal of Control, Automation and Electrical Systems.
